anode ladder

The anode ladder has been used for corrosion monitoring of reinforced concrete structures worldwide both for newly built structures and for extensive repair measures for more than twenty years. It can be installed in structural elements of bridges, tunnels or parking structures which are exposed to deicing salts or elements of marine structures situated in the splash/tidal zone. The anode ladder consists of six single anodes which are placed at different depths between the outer rein- forcement and the concrete surface, a titanium-oxide cathode and a temperature sensor. The depths of the single anodes can be adjusted to the concrete cover of the structure. The corrosion of a single anode can be detected by measurement of the corrosion potential and the corrosion current between anode and cathode. By means of cyclic measurements, the ingress of the deterioration front into the structure can be monitored and the expected deterioration progress can be extrapolated. In addition, electrolytic resistivity measurements between adjoining anodes allow for an assessment of the moisture distribution in the surface-near concrete.
